College Counseling: Services

Formal College Counseling begins in a student's freshman year. Our four-year college access program is designed to guide students and families through the college admissions process. Students participate in individual meetings, group meetings, college admissions workshops, college visits to our campus, and group visits to college campuses. Parents enjoy regular outreach events, including financial aid planning seminars, monthly parent coffees, parent infomation nights, and other college planning and preparation programs.
By the junior year, students meet individually with our College Counseling staff, attend monthly class meetings hosted by the College Counseling Office, and participate in Junior Class College Night. Seniors participate in specialized workshops covering college applications, interviewing skills, and scholarship searches. They work closely with the College Counseling office, meeting regularly in group and individual sessions throughout the admissions and selection process.
In addition, all St. David's School students and families receive membership in Family Connection by Naviance, a web-based service that helps students and families evaluate college and career interests, research colleges, plan the admissions process, and track college applications.
Parents and students may keep abreast of College Counseling news and events through Collegebeat, which is published in print and is also available online. Parents are also invited to drop in for a "Cup of College" on the first Tuesday morning of each month in the Welcome Center Conference Room. Coffee is served as we informally discuss topics related to preparing for and applying to college.
