Performing Arts: Choral Music Program, grades 5-12

Choral music classes begin in the fifth grade at St.
David's School. These classes promote growth by further developing vocal
skills, ear training, sight reading, music theory, music reading skills, and appreciation
for music.
In seventh and eighth grade, students begin training for part singing (soprano,
alto, tenor, etc.), ensemble techniques and intermediate music theory in preparation
for upper school choir. Special focus is given to the changing adolescent voice.
Students in the Upper School choir learn more advanced vocal skills for sight-singing
and sight-reading. They explore different styles of music and study the background
of composers to understand the intricacies of their music.
Students are given the chance to perform throughout the year at school concerts
and during chapel services. Further, students are encouraged to prepare and audition
for the NCMEA All-State and Honors Choruses. Above all, St. David's program believes
that the beauty of music is designed to nourish the heart and soul of people.
