The boys finished 19th behind Asheville Christian, while Cary Christian was second and Grace fifth. “Caroline ran a strong race,” said coach Eric Whitfield. “The boys saved their best for last with three of them finishing under 20 minutes. It was a beautiful day to race and our teams did well.” Winston Tuttle, Will and Brendan Hanna, Andrew Alcock and Eli Norman also competed for the Warriors boys.

The St. David’s girls finished fifth and the boys sixth in the EPIC cross country meet Thursday at Trinity Academy of Raleigh. Caroline Ross finished fifth in the girls race to earn All-Conference Honors. Cary Christian won the girls 5k race, followed by Grace Christian, The O’Neal School and Carolina Friends. The Warriors and Trinity of Durham-Chapel Hill completed the field. Cary Christian also won the boys 5k ahead of Trinity DCH, Grace Christian, O’Neal, Carolina Friends, the Warriors and Trinity of Raleigh. St. David’s has seven boys and six girls running in the state meet at Wake Med Soccer Park next week.

A Run Through Bond Park

The St. David’s girls finished third and the boys were fifth in Tuesday’s cross- country meet at Bond Park. Host Cary Christian won both 5k races. Grace Christian was second in the girls race, followed the Warriors, Carolina Friends, Trinity of Durham-Chapel Hill and Trinity of Raleigh. Caroline Ross was the Warriors top finisher and came in fourth overall. Will Hanna led the boys and was 10th overall. Trinity of Durham-Chapel Hill was second followed by Carolina Friends, Grace Christian, SDS and Trinity of Raleigh.

Boys Win, Girls Finish Second

The boys cross country team won and the girls were second at Thursday’s five-team 5K race hosted by Wake Christian. Senior Alex Nechyba won his second race in as many tries and classmate Will Hanna was the runner-up for the second time. Ravenscroft, Wake Christian, Freedom Christian and Wayne Christian completed the field. “Alex ran an outstanding time of 18:58 and Andrew Alcock reached out his arm to pass two runners at the finish line,” said coach Eric Whitfield. “That was huge because he was our fifth finisher. The girls ran well. Three of our top four runners are freshman, so their future is bright.” Caroline Ross finished third overall. Ravenscroft won the girls race.

Varsity XC Splits First Races

The varsity cross-country Warriors split the season-opening 5k races at Ravenscroft Friday.  Senior Alex Nechyba won the boys race, leading the Warriors to a 25-31 victory. Will Hanna was second and Winston Tuttle took fourth. Brendan Hanna finished ninth to round out the St. David’s top 10 finishers. The girls lost, 51-20. Caroline Ross finished third, Lillian York was fifth and Paige Aarsbergen took ninth. “Both teams did well despite being outnumbered almost four to one,” said coach Eric Whitfield. “Alex posted his first sub 20 minute time and Will Hanna was just over 20. We have three freshman girls and two of them finished in the top 10. I thought it was a good opening meet.”
