Team Stories

The JV Warriors won their second straight contest, 52-43, over Trinity Academy of Raleigh Tuesday night at home. St. David’s trailed 29-22 at halftime, but rallied behind Hoyt Lewis’ outside shooting and Colby Sanders’ inside play. “They were a very effective combination,” said coach Steve Baker, whose Warriors are 2-3. “Our defense was a lot better in the second half and we got the ball to the right person on offense. Lewis led the scoring with 19 points, including four three-pointers. Sanders had 13.

The Warriors JV boys basketball team opened the season with a 67-56 loss to the Garner High School freshman team Tuesday at the St. David’s gym. SDS struggled in the second quarter and trailed 36-18 at halftime. However, they outscored the Trojans 38-29 in the second half. “We got away from our game and tried to run with them in the second quarter,” said coach Steve Baker. “We played a lot better in the second half once we figured it out, slowed down and looked for our shot. It was good to get started.” Hoyt Lewis led St. David’s with 21 points. Trey Weddington added 11, nine in the fourth quarter.
