Team Stories

The boys were third and the girls fourth in Tuesday’s varsity swim meet at North Raleigh Christian Academy. On the girls side, the host school won, followed by Trinity of Durham-Chapel Hill, Grace Christian and the Warriors. Sarah Spencer Ball won the 50 and 100 freestyle to lead the Warriors. Annie Mears was second in the 100 butterfly and joined Ball, Caroline Ross and Lillian York on the third place 200 freestyle relay team. Ross placed third in the 200 freestyle and the 100 backstroke. Trinity and NRCA finished ahead of the SDS boys. Senior Max Michaud finished second in the 50 and 100 freestyle and was part of the second place 200 freestyle relay team along with Will and Ben Patrick and David Bailey.  Elsewhere, Samuel Bedor was third in the 100 freestyle and Tyler Bennett finished third in the 500 freestyle. 

Both Warrior swim teams finished second in Thursday’s meet at Rocky Mount Academy.  The host school won the boys side, while The Epiphany School of New Bern won the girls meet. The Warriors finished in the top three in most events. Caroline Ross won the 100 backstroke and anchored the first place 200 free relay team along with Sarah Spencer Ball, Lillian York and Lindley Williams. She finished second in the 200 freestyle and teamed with Ball, York and Kennedy Rouser to finish second in the 200 medley relay. Ball finished second in the 50 and 100 freestyle races, while Rouser was third in the 100 butterfly and took third in the 400 freestyle relay along with Williams, York and Lauryn Bailey. “Everyone on both teams gave tremendous effort,” said coach Stephen Shingler. “We had great enthusiasm, energy along with quality sportsmanship.” Senior Max Michaud led the boys with a first place finish in the 50 freestyle. He was also part of a Warrior sweep of the 100 free with another victory. Samuel Bedor took second and Paco Fuentes was third. Michaud teamed with Brian and Will Patrick along with Jackson Rouser for a runner-up finish in the 200 freestyle relay and also took third in the 200 medley relay along with Tyler Bennett, Issac Bostic and Bedor. Elsewhere, Bedor was second in the 100 breaststroke and was part of the second place 400 freestyle relay team along with Bostic, Rouser and Will Patrick. Bennett was third in the 200 freestyle and Bostic finished third in the 200 freestyle and the 200 individual medley.

The boys finished second and the girls third as the Warriors swim teams opened the season Wednesday at St. Mary’s. Raleigh Charter won the boys meet while the host school took the girls. Tyler Bennett finished second in the 200 freestyle, the 500 freestyle and was part of the 200 free relay team along with Max Michaud and Will and Brian Patrick. Michaud was the runner-up in the 50 freestyle and third in the 100 freestyle. Isaac Bostic was third in the 200 individual medley, third in the 100 butterfly and helped the 400 free relay team to a third place finish along with Jackson Rouser and the Patrick brothers. Brian Patrick was third in the 100 backstroke and Rouser finished third in the 100 breaststroke. On the girls side, Sarah Spencer Ball finished second in the 50 freestyle and was part of the third place 200 medley and freestyle relays along with Caroline Ross, Annie Mears, Lillian York and Kennedy Rouser. “It was good to get started,” said coach Stephen Shingler. “We showed great spirit and did a fantastic job of encouraging each other. I think it will be a fun season.”
