The girls golf team fell 144-157 to Cary Academy in their final match Tuesday at Lonnie Poole Golf Course in Raleigh. Senior Abigail McClatchey shot a four over par 40 to win medalist honors. She qualified for the state golf tournament at Whispering Pines Country Club in two weeks.  “I’m proud of Abigial’s effort this year,” said coach Kent Reaves. “She was the medalist in four matches and had a solid year for us. Our team was inexperienced, but the girls worked hard to improve. Every one of them was a better golfer at the end and we had a lot of fun along the way.

The girls golf Warriors improved their team score by two strokes in the second of back-to-back matches, but lost to North Raleigh Christian Academy 148-145 at Hasentree Golf Course in Wake Forest Thursday. The 148 total was also three shots better than their score in the opening match against the Knights two weeks ago. “I am pleased that our ball striking improves every match,” said coach Kent Reeves. “I think the girls learned today that practicing putting is important. We missed five short ones today that would have made a difference. However, we’ve improved a lot overall in a short time.” Abigail McClatchey shot a season-best 42 to take medalist honors. Lila Smith posted a personal-low 51 and Sarah Curtis McClatchey had a 55 to complete the team score.

The girls golf team won its first match by 28 shots over Cary Christian Wednesday at The Preserve Golf Club in Chapel Hill. Abigail McClatchey took medalist honors with a 43 as the Warriors prevailed 150-178. “We needed a win,” said coach Kent Reeves. “The girls have played better every match, so it was nice to see  a victory today.” Lila Smith (52) and Sarah Curtis McClatchey (55) completed the team total.

The girls varsity golf team lost to The O’Neal School, 152-160, Tuesday at Pinehurst #7. Abigail McClatchey led the Warriors with a 45. O’Neal’s Nicole Adam took medalist honors with a 38. “We only had four players available and two of them were 8thgraders, so we knew it would be a challenge,” said coach Kent Reeves. “It’s their home course and the greens were probably the most difficult we will face this year. Abigail’s iron play wasn’t her best, but she fought hard to finish second. I’m proud of the way everybody competed.” Sarah Curtis McClatchey (56) and Lila Smith (59) completed the Warriors team score.

The St. David’s girls golf team dropped their season opener by five shots (146-151) to NRCA on a warm, muggy Tuesday at Lonnie Poole Golf Course in Raleigh. Senior Abigail McClatchey earned medalist honors with a 45. Two Knights were next at 46. “All of our girls hit some excellent shots at different points in the round,” said coach Kent Reeves. “We played just as well as they did from tee to green, but we missed a lot of putts within five feet, which proved to be the difference. Lonnie Poole is a long, difficult course, but I was proud that we kept our composure and kept competing.” Elizabeth Wiley and Lila Smith both shot 53 to complete the Warriors team total.
