The varsity boys tennis team won their first match this season, 5-4, over Wake Christian Academy Monday at the Satellite Athletic Complex. The teams were tied 3-3 after singles. Joseph Pisciotta (6-2, 6-2), Banks Avrum (6-3, 6-3) and David Bailey (6-2, 6-2) won for St. David’s. The Warriors wrapped up the victory by taking two of the three doubles matches. Pisciotta teamed with Turner Vaughn to win 8-2 and Banks partnered with Wade Ferrell to prevail 8-3. “This was a great win for our program,” said coach Andy Terrell. “The boys have improved through their work in practice and it’s nice to see it pay off in a match. This will encourage them to continue to work and they will be able to stay on the court longer the rest of the season.”

The varsity boys tennis Warriors won two individual matches, but lost the overall match, 7-2, to Carolina Friends Thursday at the Satellite Athletic Complex. Freshman Joseph Pisciotta won his singles match, 6-3, 6-3 and the doubles team of Wade Ferrell and David Bailey won, 8-2. “Our young team is getting better,” said coach Andy Terrill. “Our guys are playing with more hustle and desire and it’s starting to pay off. We had another match go to a tie-breaker today and that’s another sign of improvement.”
