Honor Code
Honorable action towards one another is a reflection of God’s love for us.
Honor is rooted, fundamentally, in Christian love and respect. When St. Paul instructs his readers to render honor to whom honor is due (Romans 13:7), he clarifies his words in the next verse: “Owe no man anything but to love one another.” Honorable action towards one another is an articulation of this love and a reflection of God’s love for us. St. Paul begins this chapter with the verse, “Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers,” and in his conclusion, urges, “Let us walk honestly, as in the day.”
In abiding by these words, it is the responsibility of every student at St. David’s School to refrain from cheating, lying and stealing. St. David’s students pledge and sign the following at the annual Honor Assembly:
The Honor Code at St. David’s is based upon these precepts. It requires students, faculty, staff and administration – out of love and respect for God, for fellow members of the St. David’s community, and for themselves – not to lie, cheat or steal. Living by these standards helps students form right habits for the rest of their lives and is an essential component of Christian virtue.
I do solemnly pledge my honor that as long as I am a member of St. David’s School, I will faithfully
uphold the principles of the Honor Code, will cherish and guard its traditions, and will respect and
observe its requirements. I make this pledge in view of God and the pledges of the students and faculty,
which signifies our mutual Trust and Resolve to keep our honor secure.
St. David’s code of honor is upheld by our student-run Honor Council, a system that has been used successfully for centuries by universities and secondary schools throughout the world. The Honor Council has the function of both maintaining an environment characterized by honor and fairness and educating students on how to live their lives with honor.
